About the Role
Insmed Cambridge are advancing an early-stage research engine encompassing a wide range of technologies and modalities to deliver powerful new ways of treating a broad range of serious and rare diseases. We are looking for a Senior Scientist to join our functional genomics team. Your skills in pooled and arrayed CRISPR screens are needed across a range of CNS projects. This is an opportunity to collaborate with experts in human genetics, bioinformatics and in vivo to deliver our mission to translate scientific discoveries into groundbreaking therapeutics, advancing them from concept to clinic.What You'll Do
- Driving experimental design using the CRISPR screening platform, ensuring the implementation of best practices and innovative approaches.
- Designing and executing complex pooled and arrayed functional genomics screening programs for target identification and validation across multiple therapeutic areas.
- Collaborating closely with bioinformatics team to analyze screening data, identify hits, and derive mechanistic insights.
- Maintain and troubleshoot automation-friendly workflows for high-throughput functional genomics studies.
- Develop our internal knowledge of state-of-the-art cell biology and genome editing technologies through literature reviews, conference attendance, and engagement with external experts.
- Monitor the genome editing-related patent landscape and identify licensing requirements and patenting opportunities as technologies advance.
- Interpret experimental data, troubleshooting issues, and deliver high-quality data packages and comprehensive reports.
- Contribute to key discussions of data at internal and external meetings (including academic and commercial parties) to facilitate project progression.
- Mentor and train junior scientists.
- Act as a technical expert in functional genomics technologies in a hands-on, lab-based role.
Who You Are
- PhD in cell and molecular biology, or a related field, with at least 5 years of postdoctoral or equivalent biopharma experience in functional genomics.
- Proven track record in designing and applying arrayed, pooled, and/or single cell CRISPR screening techniques in multiple cell models including iPSC-derived models and primary cells.
- Familiarity with basic bioinformatics and data interpretation for CRISPR screen results.
- Extensive experience and knowledge in mammalian cell culture, including the engineering of complex cell models, lentivirus packaging, and transduction.
- In-depth knowledge of various CRISPR modalities, such as CRISPR-Cas9, CRISPR interference, CRISPR activation, base editing, and/or prime editing.
- Experience in sgRNA library design, optimization, and validation.
- Proficiency in developing and implementing high throughput phenotypic assays, including cell survival, flow cytometry, and high content imaging read-outs.
- Broad expertise in molecular biology techniques, including DNA/RNA/protein extractions, quantitative PCR, plasmid design, and molecular cloning.
- Familiarity with next-generation sequencing technologies, including library preparation and data interpretation.
- Self-starter with strong planning and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent team collaboration, communication, and presentation skills.
- Adaptable, with the ability to thrive in an empowering work environment.
- This role will require you to work from our brand-new state-of-the-art offices and labs situated in Babraham Research Campus, South Cambridge.
